Buccal fat pad removal is a simple procedure that is designed to address mild fullness of the lower cheek and jowls.
A small incision is made with the assistance of a local anesthetic inside the mouth in the inner cheek area. A small amount of fat is teased out of that area and removed. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures. The procedure can be done either in-office under local anesthesia or under general anesthesia in a surgical setting. Patients tolerate the procedure well and are usually happy with the modest improvement in shape and contour of the cheek. The results tend to be long-lasting.
